The weekend

What an eventful weekend! *whew*

Friday night we went with FIL and MIL to pick out the flooring for our duplex. *yay* It is going to look so amazing!! In the midst of that conversation, as we were discussing the move-in date of June 17, we realized that EVERYBODY including FIL and ALL of "the guys" will be OUT OF THE COUNTRY that weekend AND the weekend after. So guess what? WE ARE MOVING THIS SATURDAY!!! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

I packed the living room last night. Hopefully working on the game room tonight, the kitchen tomorrow night, and the bedroom/bathroom Thursday night. Then Friday night (IF the floors are finished... which I pray to GOD they are), we will work on cleaning the new place in preparation for the move.

*sheesh*

Anyways, woke up really early on Saturday morning. Did laundry. Washed dishes. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Finally left for WalMart and Best Buy. Got myself some lotion, makeup brushes... anyways, lots of girly stuff... as well as some oil for my car because the oil light had been going on and off during my drive over there.

Then I went to Best Buy.. got a gift for B, since our Anniversary was coming up.

Finally, I headed home. Then about 1/2 mile from my exit, my car started making the most AWFUL noise. So I pulled over and called B. Sure enough, it was the oil.

But that didn't make any sense to us, since we had just gotten it changed three weeks ago. So FIL came over to look at it, and what'dya know? The oil lube place had not put the filter on correctly, causing the oil to slowly leak for the last three weeks.

So, here we are, less than an hour from leaving for our Anniversary trip, and the one reliable car we had BROKE DOWN.

Thank the Lord for in-laws! We borrowed MIL's car and headed down the road.

On the way to Highlands, we made an unspoken commitment NOT to talk about ANY of the money stuff that is going on (the $1500 that the floors are costing us, the broken down car, etc.) That lead to one of the most amazing weekends ever.

The little Bed & Breakfast was ADORABLE. We got there Saturday evening, unloaded our bags, got settled in, and drove over the mountain to Highlands (we were actually staying in a little town outside of Highlands called Franklin). We arrived in the quaint little town full of anitcipation, only to find that all the shops and restaurants closed at 6pm on Saturday and did not reopen until 9am on MONDAY! (Some didn't open until Tuesday!) So, we walked around for a bit, got back in the car, and drove back home over the mountain.

We ended up having Chinese for dinner.

Now, as awful as all that sounds, we had a WONDERFUL time. Just driving and talking and listening to music. I had almost forgotten what it was like to carry on a conversation with him that did not include bills, or houses, or cars, or work. We thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and, even more, each other's company.

Got back to the B&B around 9pm, opened our Anniversary presents, and fell asleep about 9:30pm (something we NEVER do).

Got up the next morning to the smell of a DELICIOUS breakfast downstairs. Stuffed French Toast with Peach Brandy Syrup. OHMYGOSH it was the best breakfast I've ever had!!! Then we got dressed and headed up another mountain for a day of hiking.

Yes, just imagine, me in all my 6-month-pregnant glory, hiking 4 miles to a waterfall in the smoky mountains. Actually, it wasn't bad at all, and the weather was perfectly cool and wonderful! We hiked a couple other smaller paths, and decided to call it a day around 3pm. We went back to the B&B, took a nap, and headed out to dinner at the ONLY restaurant open on Sunday "The Lighthouse." The food didn't look extremely appetizing; so we both got the soup and salad bar.

Later, we walked around Kmart (can you tell what an exciting town this was?) and went to a 9:30pm movie.

It was all very relaxing and fun, just being together, without the stress of everday life.

Fell asleep around midnight, got up the next morning to a not-so-delicious breakfast of eggs and onions (blech), packed up, and headed back over the mountain to Highlands. The shops were open this time, and while we had no money to spend, we really enjoyed just walking around to all the different shops and eateries.

Around 2pm, I got a HUGE scoop of DELICIOUS icecream, and headed towards home.

What I learned from this weekend: It is VERY important to have conversation for the fun of having conversation - no bills, no stress, not even baby sometimes. My goal is to have at least ONE conversation a day like that with B. I really believe it will make a huge difference.

Over-all, it was WONDERFUL. I can't even THINK about ONE negative thing. I mean, even having to take his mom's car was a blessing in disguise. He drives a lot more carefully in someone else's car. This led to NO - 0 - NO fights over his driving in the mountains. What a gift itself!

So, Happy Anniversary, my love. It has been the best two years of my life.
